In 2010, Manny Carreras’ doctor told him that if he didn’t change his ways, he would be dead. Manny suffered from Severe Sleep Apnea, Extreme High Blood Pressure, Diabetes and High Cholesterol; at that moment, Manny woke up and decided enough was enough. Weighing in at 325 pounds, he decided he could no longer live like that.
“I saw a picture of myself at a family event and it shocked me and so I said ‘No more! I have to live!”
So with that, Manny joined a local fitness club, got a personal trainer and started rigorously training. One Saturday morning while on the treadmill, Manny heard music playing – Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, Hip-Hop. His curiosity piqued; so, he snuck into the aerobic studio and it was packed. Everyone was dancing and sweating and having a great time.
Deciding to give it a shot, Manny stepped into the back row of that Zumba class, and just when he thought he was going to pass out, the instructor invited him to join him up front to lead a song. Manny recalled, “I think I lost about 10 pounds walking to the front; I thought surely, I was going to die, but I felt encouraged to attend every Zumba class after that.”
Manny became a licensed Zumba instructor in 2011, and now teaches 6 times a week. Manny has lost 110 pounds since starting the Zumba program. He works out every day and he teaches Zumba class every day as if it was his first class!
